The information on the place of residence and citizenship will be added to the information indicated in the identity card.
Axar.az reports that in this regard, President Ilham Aliyev approved amendments to the law “On the Identity Card of a Citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan”.
The draft amendment was prepared to bring the identity card of an Azerbaijani citizen into line with the requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standard No. 9303, as well as to eliminate some difficulties in using the identity card.
According to the information, the identity card of an Azerbaijani citizen is also used as a travel document (with Turkiye). The fact that information about the person’s address is not reflected on the identity card causes some difficulties in using the card. In this regard, it has become necessary to make changes to the form of the identity card and the scope of information on it. Therefore, it is proposed to update the composition of the information reflected on the identity card.
Thus, the information on the place of residence and citizenship will be added to the information indicated on the identity card. At the same time, it is proposed to store only more necessary information on the electronic carrier (chip) compared to the previous version.
Another proposed change is that the citizen's marital status, parents, children, military service and other information will no longer be stored directly on the electronic medium, but through IAMAS (interdepartmental automated information retrieval system) and will be cryptographically protected. Cryptographic protection of information related to the identity card aims to ensure its confidentiality, integrity, and protection from unauthorized interference.
The draft law also makes changes to the rules for issuing the card.
Change of residence is added to the cases where the card must be replaced. In addition, if a technical or content error is detected in the card or electronic medium, the correction is intended to be carried out without charging a state fee.
Thus, the changes will ensure that information related to the identity card is managed in more modern systems, securely and flexibly, as well as simplifying documentation procedures and services for citizens.
