Sergen Yalcin emerges as favorite for Turkiye job

The Turkish Football Federation has approached former Besiktas manager Sergen Yalcin to take charge of the national team following Vincenzo Montella’s departure.

Axar.az reports, citing Turkish media, that talks with Yalcin were progressing positively, although neither the federation nor the coach had issued an official statement.

Other candidates include Senol Gunes, Fatih Tekke, Samet Aybaba and Abdullah Avci. Shakhtar Donetsk manager Arda Turan was also approached but opted to remain at his club.

Montella left the post after Turkiye lost its first four UEFA Nations League A matches. He had led the national team since September 2023, recording 21 wins, five draws and 14 defeats in 40 matches.

Turkiye are scheduled to host Belgium on November 12 before visiting France on November 15.
