Turkiye proposes safe shipping routes in Black Sea

Turkiye has proposed that Russia and Ukraine halt attacks in the Black Sea and establish separate safe routes for civilian vessels.

Axar.az informs, citing foreign media, Ankara conveyed the initiative to Moscow and Kyiv through Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.

Under the proposed plan, Ukrainian merchant vessels would be able to reach the Bosphorus Strait by sailing along the coasts of Romania and Bulgaria. Russian civilian vessels would use a separate route along the coasts of Georgia and Turkiye.

Ankara hopes the initiative will reduce risks to maritime transport and prevent further attacks on commercial vessels. The proposal envisages both sides agreeing not to target civilian shipping and ensuring the safety of the designated routes.
