The United States is considering the possibility of establishing a military base in Ecuador and transferring its troops there.
Axar.az reports that this was stated by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio at a joint press conference with the country's Foreign Minister Gabriela Sommerfeld.
"We have talked about the possibility of deploying US troops in Ecuador on a long-term basis, of course, in cooperation with the Ecuadorian government...", Rubio said.
According to him, this will create opportunities for joint training of military personnel, conducting operations, and responding to common threats.
He recalled that the United States previously maintained a military base here, but in 2009, at the request of the country's former president, Rafael Correa (2007-2017), it was forced to withdraw its troops.
