The Russian side is optimistic ahead of the meeting between the Presidents of Russia and Azerbaijan, Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev.
Axar.az informs, citing TASS, the two leaders are expected to discuss all existing issues in bilateral relations, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
"Right now, we are talking about President Putin’s state visit to Tajikistan. We have a very broad agenda, and of course, Russian-Azerbaijani relations are among the key topics," he said.
He added that an agreement had been reached for the two presidents to meet today. "Let’s see the results of the meeting. We are optimistic. We expect the presidents to discuss the current state of our bilateral relations and address any problematic issues that exist," Peskov noted.
Peskov also mentioned that the telephone conversation between Putin and Aliyev on October 7 was “good, positive, and constructive,” and that the agreement to hold the upcoming meeting was reached during that call. Aliyev phoned Putin on his birthday to warmly congratulate him. This conversation was their first direct contact in over six months.
