Iran extends sentence of Salar Tahir Afshar

The sentence of Azerbaijani civil activist Salar Tahir Afshar, who is currently imprisoned in Evin Prison, has been increased.

Axar.az reports according to his sister, Sudabeh Tahir Afshar, his previous sentence of five years of discretionary imprisonment and one year of travel ban has been supplemented with new penalties.

A further one year of imprisonment and two additional years of travel ban have been added, bringing his total sentence to six years in prison.

At the same time, reports also indicate widespread disruptions in telephone communications at Evin Prison and the severing of contact between some inmates and their families. As of the time of reporting, authorities have not commented on the cause of these disruptions or the details of the sentence increase.
