Russia to ban deportation of foreign soldiers

According to amendments made to Russian legislation, foreign citizens serving in the Armed Forces (AF) or participating in military conflicts will be prohibited from being expelled from the country.

Axar.az reports that TASS published this information, citing materials from a commission meeting.

Under the amendments, instead of administrative expulsion from the country, such foreigners will face a fine ranging from 1,000 rubles (approximately 21 manats) to 50,000 rubles (about 1,046 manats), or up to 200 hours of compulsory labor. Additionally, a draft law is being considered that would prohibit declaring such foreign military personnel undesirable in Russia, applying deportation decisions against them, or denying them temporary or permanent residence permits—even after they complete their contractual service.

Moreover, if the amendments are adopted, foreign citizens serving in the Russian Armed Forces will be banned from being extradited to any foreign state.
