Yıldırım: Zangezur Corridor key to future of Turkic world

The Zangezur Corridor, as part of the Middle Corridor, is an important factor in contributing to the development of the Turkic world.

Axar.az reports, citing Azertac, that Binali Yildirim, the head of the Council of Elders of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), made this statement during a symposium held at Selcuk University in Turkiye.

According to him, the opening of the route between the western regions of Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic will further open up the potential of the Turkic world, and its resources and wealth will be used for the welfare of the Turkic peoples. “The Zangezur Corridor is of particular importance for the future of the Turkic world,” Binali Yildirim said.

Referring to the trade indicators between the TST countries, he said that despite the current total foreign trade turnover of $1.1 trillion between the Turkic states, only $70 billion of this falls on mutual trade.

The head of the TDT Council of Elders also noted the need for the full use of the common Turkic alphabet consisting of 34 letters. “The working points regarding the common Turkic alphabet have been agreed upon. Today, the actual implementation of this alphabet is important. Everything depends on the political will of individual countries and their efforts to implement it. This will take time,” said B. Yıldırım, noting that thanks to the new alphabet, residents of TDT countries will be able to read in any Turkish language.

The head of the TDT Council of Elders also highlighted issues such as the preparation of textbooks on the common history of the Turkic world, simplification of customs procedures, and development of infrastructure as important issues on the agenda of the integration of Turkic states.
