Syria warns Israel’s demilitarized zone plan is dangerous

Israel's demands to create a demilitarized zone are putting Syria in a dangerous situation.

Axar.az reports that Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa stated this at a forum in Doha.

"Damascus insists on adhering to the 1974 disengagement agreement with Israel. This agreement has been in force for more than 50 years and is, in a sense, a successful agreement," he stressed.

Al-Sharaa said that interfering in the agreement and attempting to reach other agreements, such as a demilitarized zone, could put the Arab state in a dangerous situation:

"Talking about creating a demilitarized buffer zone on the border with Israel is a dangerous topic. The question arises: who will ensure the security of this zone, and who will manage it? If there will be no Syrian army and security forces there, this is a completely logical concern."

It should be noted that Israeli troops still occupy the territories in the Golan Heights, which are patrolled by the UN, and have repeatedly carried out military operations deep inside Syria.
