Trump's trade wounds force White House into action

The White House is taking major steps to address the economic damage caused by President Trump’s tariffs, particularly the financial strain on farmers and manufacturers.

Axar.az, citing Axios, reports that new aid package for row-crop farmers will be funded by tariff revenue — the same tariffs that caused much of their economic hardship. Trump argued that tariffs give the administration the power and resources to support farmers, while the Supreme Court is set to decide on the limits of that power.

China has resumed limited soybean purchases, but American farmers continue to face rising production costs due to higher tariffs on key inputs. The administration has already rolled back tariffs on several grocery items to ease the broader economic impact.

Meanwhile, China has posted a record $1 trillion trade surplus, showing its exports remain strong globally despite reduced U.S. purchases. Within the U.S., consumer sentiment and manufacturing performance have sharply declined, with new orders falling and companies cutting staff or moving production offshore.

The White House insists the tariffs are “leveling the playing field,” but they continue to create economic pain the administration is now trying to mitigate.
