EU backs Iranian protestors, condemn crackdown

Voices of Iranian women and men demanding freedom are being heard on the streets of Tehran and in cities around the world. Freedom to speak, to gather, to travel, and above all, the freedom to live freely. Europe stands with them. We unequivocally condemn the brutal crackdown on these legitimate demonstrations.

Axar.az reports that these remarks were made by President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen in a statement regarding the protests and unrest in Iran.

“Those responsible will be remembered as being on the wrong side of history.

We call for the immediate release of all detained protesters.

We call for the full restoration of internet access. And we demand respect for fundamental rights,” she wrote on her social media account.
