Trump threatens Macron with 200% wine, champagne tariff

US President Donald Trump has threatened his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron with a 200% tariff on wine and champagne imported from France.

Axar.az reports, citing Bloomberg, that the US president made this statement after journalists noted that Macron might refuse to join the Gaza Peace Council.

“He is not needed by anyone anyway, because he will soon leave office. I will impose a 200% tariff on his wine and champagne, and he will join,” Trump said.

Macron’s second presidential term ends next year. The French president has stated that he will not run in the next elections. Trump announced the creation of the Peace Council on January 16. On the same day, he presented the council’s Executive Committee, which includes US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, special envoy Steve Whitkoff, the president’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, and former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair.
