The US President Donald Trump said that the war with Iran will end “soon” because there is “practically nothing left to target,” emphasizing that the U.S. operation has largely accomplished its objectives.
Axar.az reports, in an interview with Axios, President Trump added that Iran’s hostility extended beyond Israel and the U.S. to other Middle Eastern countries, describing the strikes as a response to “47 years of death and destruction.”
"They were after the rest of the Middle East. They are paying for 47 years of death and destruction they caused. This is payback. They will not get off that easy," Trump said.
U.S. and Israeli officials have not set a firm end date for the campaign, with Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stating the war will continue “as long as necessary” to achieve all objectives.
"Little this and that... Any time I want it to end, it will end," Trump said during the five-minute call.
Intelligence reports indicated Iran began laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz, prompting U.S. strikes that destroyed 16 mine-laying vessels and disrupted Iranian plans. CENTCOM commander Admiral Brad Cooper said U.S. forces are steadily degrading Iran’s military capabilities, with missile and drone attacks declining sharply.
Trump said the war is “going great” and ahead of schedule, inflicting more damage than originally planned.
He outlined four U.S. objectives in the February 28 strikes: destroy Iran’s missile capabilities, annihilate its navy, prevent its proxies from destabilizing the region, and ensure Iran does not acquire a nuclear weapon.
