Macron: No confirmation Iran mined Strait of Hormuz

French President Emmanuel Macron said he had “no confirmation” regarding recent reports that Iran had started laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz.

Axar.az reports, citing DW, Macron made the statements following a video call with G7 leaders.

"I have no confirmation of this, either from partner services or from our own services.”

On Tuesday, the U.S. announced it had struck 16 Iranian “mine-laying boats” in the strait.

Macron added that while U.S. and Israeli strikes have weakened Iran’s military capabilities, they have not been “reduced to zero.”

“Considerable damage has already been inflicted on Iran’s ballistic missile capabilities, but it continues to threaten several countries in the region, so its capabilities have not been eliminated,” he said.

He also noted that he had left it to President Donald Trump to clarify his ultimate objectives and the pace of the operations.
