US, Ukraine and Russia to hold first trilateral talks

Ukraine, Russia, and the United States are holding trilateral talks in Abu Dhabi, marking the first such meeting since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

Axar.az, citing The Guardian, reports that the talks were confirmed following discussions involving Russian President Vladimir Putin, US envoy Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner.

The meeting is focused on security issues and is part of the Trump administration’s push for a negotiated peace.

Key unresolved issues include the status of Russian-occupied Ukrainian territory, Ukraine’s Nato aspirations, and postwar security guarantees. While Russia demands territorial concessions and a Nato renunciation, Ukraine has rejected surrendering land.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said peace proposals are nearly ready but warned that compromises must come from both sides. Legal and diplomatic details remain unclear, and it is not confirmed whether Ukrainian and Russian officials will meet directly.
