Kazakhstan seeks to buy Lukoil’s assets

Astana has submitted an official application to US authorities to purchase Lukoil's shares in Kazakhstan.

Axar.az reports that this was stated by the Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan, Erlan Akkenzhenov.

“At the end of last year, we also stated that when selling Lukoil's assets in Kazakhstan, we have the preemptive right to purchase this share, as stipulated by law. We have sent a corresponding request to the US authorities,” he said.

Akkenzhenov noted that the country's authorities have not yet submitted a proposal to Lukoil to purchase its assets in Kazakhstan.

It should be noted that, according to US sanctions, the company must sell its assets by February 28.
