Syria’s transitional president Ahmed al-Sharaa is set to visit Berlin next Monday, making up for a trip postponed in January due to renewed violence in Syria.

Axar.az reports, citing Tagesspiegel, during the visit, he will meet German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and take part in a roundtable with business leaders, government spokesperson Stefan Kornelius said.

Talks are expected to focus on the return of Syrian refugees and the reconstruction of the war-torn country. Al-Sharaa was invited to Germany in November, but the visit was delayed amid escalating violence.

He came to power after the overthrow of longtime ruler Bashar al-Assad in late 2024 and has since led efforts to steer Syria toward greater openness and closer ties with the West.
