Erdogan: EU needs Turkiye more than vice versa

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has stated that Europe’s need for Turkiye is greater than Turkiye's need for Europe.

Axar.az reports, citing Anadolu, Erdogan made the remarks following a Cabinet meeting chaired by him.

“Today, Europe’s need for Turkiye is greater than Turkiye's need for Europe. Tomorrow, this need will be even greater,” Erdogan said.

He noted that a new global order is taking shape, where regional cooperation is gaining importance, new actors are emerging, and the international system is rapidly evolving toward multipolarity, adding that Turkiye is among the strongest candidates to become one of the leading poles of this new system.

Erdogan said Europe is at a crossroads, stressing that it must either view Turkiye's growing power and global influence as an opportunity for overcoming its challenges, or allow exclusionary rhetoric to overshadow its future.

"As in the past, the issue today is not where Ankara stands; the issue is where Brussels wants to position itself in the future world, where it sees its place. The EU must fully appreciate Türkiye’s constructive stance, not misuse it, and refrain from actions or rhetoric that undermine it. Let it not be forgotten: Turkiye is no longer the old Turkiye, and the world is no longer confined to the sphere of Western dominance,” Erdogan stated.

Expressing his expectation that European decision-makers will abandon political and historical biases, Erdogan said they should instead develop sincere, genuine, and equal relations with Turkiye.

“The winner of such a relationship will be the European continent, of which Turkiye is an inseparable part. We will continue to move forward on this path with patience and dignity, guided by our nation’s higher interests, with our heads held high,” Erdogan added.
