Russia and Ukraine conduct prisoner swap

Russia and Ukraine have exchanged prisoners, with each side releasing 205 people, according to the Russian Ministry of Defence.

Axar.az reports that the swap took place with humanitarian mediation from the United Arab Emirates.

The ministry said that the returned Russian servicemen are currently in Belarus, where they are receiving psychological and medical assistance. They will later be transported to Russia for treatment and rehabilitation in Defence Ministry medical facilities.

It was also noted that earlier in May, U.S. President Donald Trump said he had urged Russia and Ukraine to carry out a larger “1000-for-1000” prisoner exchange amid a proposed Victory Day ceasefire, which Russia reportedly agreed to.
