Five killed in Syria landmine blast

Five people were killed after a landmine exploded in the vicinity of the T4 (Tiyas) Air Base in the eastern Homs countryside.

Axar.az reports, citing SANA, that Homs Media Directorate said engineering teams from the Syrian Arab Army discovered the bodies during a clearance operation in the area surrounding the air base along the Homs–Palmyra Road.

Preliminary findings indicated that the victims were killed when a landmine exploded after they entered the restricted area around the air base without authorization several days earlier, the directorate said.

The incident comes days after a child was killed and two others were injured in a landmine explosion in the al-Sukhnah area of eastern Homs countryside. Authorities said the device was a remnant of the conflict.
