Iraq holds funeral for Iran’s late Supreme Leader

The coffin carrying Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has arrived in one of Shia Islam’s holiest cities, Najaf in Iraq ahead of his burial on Thursday.

Axar.az reports, citing Al Jazeera, Iran’s president attended the arrival ceremony in Iraq, but was forced to cut short his visit following renewed US strikes on Iran.

The funeral ceremony for Ali Khamenei, who was assassinated on February 28, began in Tehran on July 3. The burial ceremony will be held on July 9 in Mashhad, the northeastern Iranian city where Khamenei was born.
