Hormuz southern route remains open

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) on Sunday said southern shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz remains open despite Iran's declaration that the strait is closed.

Axar.az reports according to the UKMTO, the maritime security threat level in the Strait of Hormuz remains "SEVERE".

"Despite the July 12, 2026 Iranian proclamation that the SoH is closed, the southern route remains available and has been expanded to accommodate two-way traffic," UKMTO said.
