Araghchi meets Lavrov in Kyrgyzstan

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has met with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov.

Axar.az reports that Lavrov and his Iranian counterpart discussed the escalating situation in the Persian Gulf and the increasingly uncertain prospects for a peaceful settlement of the conflict.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan.

During the talks, Lavrov stressed the importance of bringing the fighting around Iran to a swift end in order to ensure stability, security, and unhindered navigation in the region.

"The Russian side emphasized the importance of reaching sustainable agreements as soon as possible to end the hostilities in the interests of restoring stability, security, and freedom of navigation in the region," the ministry said.

The two foreign ministers also discussed several current issues related to bilateral cooperation.
