Yemen has appointed Afrah al-Zouba as its first female foreign minister, marking a historic milestone in a limited cabinet reshuffle.

Axar.az reports that al-Zouba previously served as minister of planning and international cooperation. She joined the cabinet in February, becoming the first woman to hold that post since women returned to Yemen's government for the first time since 2015.

As part of the reshuffle, Badr Basalma was appointed minister of planning and international cooperation, while Ahed Jassous was named minister of local administration.

The changes come after the Presidential Leadership Council announced a 35-member government led by Prime Minister Shaya al-Zindani in February.

Yemen has been engulfed in conflict since late 2014, when the Houthi movement seized the capital, Sanaa. The internationally recognized government has since operated primarily from the southern port city of Aden.
