Russian investigators have launched an inquiry into the deaths of two climbers on Mount Elbrus.

Axar.z reports, citing Russian media, that according to the Investigative Committee's branch in Kabardino-Balkaria, a group of seven climbers began ascending the mountain on July 25. One member of the group descended on his own and reported that two climbers had fallen ill at an altitude of 5,100 meters.

Later, the regional branch of Russia's Ministry of Emergency Situations said rescuers had recovered the bodies of the two deceased climbers on Mount Elbrus. One other member of the group was found alive.

According to preliminary reports, the climbers were from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The bodies of the two deceased climbers remain on the mountain due to adverse weather conditions. They are located on the mountain's saddle at an altitude of 5,350 meters. They will be evacuated as soon as weather conditions permit.

Two rescued climbers have already been handed over to medical personnel.
