The Armenian government held its final meeting before resigning as the newly elected ninth-convocation parliament is set to begin work on August 2, following the results of the June 7 elections.

Axar.az reports, citing Armenian media, that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan made the remarks while closing the Cabinet meeting and thanking everyone for their work.

“This is the final regular meeting of our government in this composition. According to the Constitution, we will submit our resignation on Sunday, after which the president of the republic will appoint as prime minister the candidate elected by the parliamentary majority. Therefore, this is the last time we are meeting in this composition,” he said.

He also noted that several members of the Cabinet will continue their work in another capacity as lawmakers in the parliament.

It should be noted that in the June 7 parliamentary elections, the ruling Civil Contract party, led by Pashinyan, won and gained the right to independently form a new government.
