Syria reinforces border deployments with Iraq and Lebanon

Syria has reinforced its military presence along its borders with Iraq and Lebanon.

Axar.az reports, citing Al Jazeera, that the Syrian army’s Operations Directorate announced the strengthening of its deployment along the country’s borders with Lebanon and Iraq.

According to the report, the reinforcements include border guard units and reconnaissance battalions tasked with monitoring border activities and preventing smuggling.

Damascus has also deployed military units, armored vehicles, short-range rocket launchers, and thousands of troops along the border with Lebanon amid growing regional tensions.

Syrian sources said the measures are aimed at preventing weapons and drug smuggling, as well as preventing Hezbollah or other armed groups from infiltrating Syrian territory.

The Iraqi government also confirmed the deployment of Syrian forces along the Syria-Iraq border, saying that the move was carried out in coordination with Baghdad.

The commander of Iraq’s Border Forces said that the situation along the border remains normal, adding that there are currently no security threats and that Iraqi and Syrian border forces continue ongoing coordination and intelligence sharing.
