A document announced by Greece, including geographical formations not ceded to Greece under international treaties, has no legal consequences for Turkiye in the context of the interconnected Aegean disputes between the two countries.

Axar.az reports, citing Anadolu, that Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesman Oncu Keceli made the remarks in response to Greece's announcement on Aug. 7 of a Special Spatial Framework for Tourism covering parts of the Aegean Sea.

"Attempts to instrumentalize universal values such as environmental protection for political purposes are futile and will have no impact on Turkiye's established legal position," Keceli said.

He reiterated that Turkiye, as one of the two coastal states bordering the Aegean Sea, remains ready to cooperate with Greece.

The Foreign Ministry also stressed that Turkiye continues to uphold its commitment under the Athens Declaration on Friendly Relations and Good-Neighbourliness, signed on Dec. 7, 2023, to resolve disputes through a sincere and comprehensive approach based on international law, justice, and the principles of good-neighborly relations.
