Russia adds Novaya Gazeta to foreign agents register

Russia’s Justice Ministry has added the online publication Novaya Gazeta to the country’s register of foreign agents, according to a statement issued Friday.

Axar.az reports, citing the Ministry, that the ministry accused Novaya Gazeta of spreading false information about decisions and policies of Russian public authorities, as well as about Russia’s electoral system.

The ministry also said the publication had opposed Russia’s military operation in Ukraine and participated in distributing materials from foreign agents.

Novaya Gazeta was also accused of maintaining ties with individuals designated as foreign agents.

The ministry also added S.M. Leibgrad, F.Yu. Sandalov, T.V. Tatarinova and the Historical Expertise magazine to the register.
