The United States does not recognize Alexander Lukashenko as the legitimately elected president of Belarus.

Axar.az reports that, the statement came from the US State Department.

"The August 9 election was not free and fair. The announced results did not reflect legitimacy. The United States does not consider Alexander Lukashenko the legitimately elected leader of the country," the statement said.

Today, Alexander Lukashenko was sworn in as the new President of Belarus. Along with the United States, five other countries (Germany, Slovakia, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia) have refused to recognize Alexander Lukashenko as president.
