In response to a biased article in "The Guardian" newspaper published in London, a letter addressed to the editorial office of the aforementioned newspaper was published by Elin Suleymanov, the ambassador of Azerbaijan to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Axar.az was informed about this by the Embassy of Azerbaijan in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
It was noted that Azerbaijan and Armenia reached a very important agreement on the normalization of relations for the first time after gaining independence. While the agreement on border delimitation between the two countries is appreciated by the international community and supported by the leadership of both countries, the inappropriate negative tone of the article published in "The Guardian" newspaper does not reflect the current reality.
The author seems to have forgotten that the main reason for the military operations and instability in the region was the 30-year illegal occupation of the internationally recognized lands of Azerbaijan by Armenia, and he even presented the return of 4 villages to Azerbaijan by Armenia as a "handover" in the article. However, those villages were once occupied by Armenia, and all available maps, including Armenian officials, confirm that those territories belong to Azerbaijan.
The author is right in his opinion about Armenia's unsuccessful search for allies outside the region throughout history. However, it should not be forgotten that lasting peace requires the normalization of relations with close neighbors. The author rightly points out that to inflame ethnic division and create fear, it was Armenian separatists who encouraged the ethnic Armenian residents of the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan to leave their places of residence.
In the end, it was said that the time has come for journalists to support the remarkable progress achieved by Azerbaijan and Armenia on the path to peace.
