Yeganyan: 1.6 million people have left Armenia

1.6-1.7 million people left Armenia during 30 years of independence.

Axar.az reports that the statement came from Armenian expert Gagik Yeganyan.

"1.1-1.2 million of them moved to Russia, 150,000 to the United States, 120-150 thousand to Europe, and the rest to different CIS countries and other countries. The largest migration was recorded in 1992-1994. 600,000 citizens have left Armenia for three years. Between 1995 and 2001, 250,000 people migrated from Armenia, which means an average of 40,000-45,000 a year," he said.

Yeganyan said that migration began to increase again in 2016-2018. He said that while the population was 3,574,500 in 1991, the figure is now 1.8-1.9 million.
