Despite the fact that Iran ranks third in the world in terms of natural gas reserves, the country faced a serious gas crisis in the cold season due to high consumption and non-development of gas fields.

Axar.az reports that Huseynali Mohammadhosseini, Director of Integrated Planning of the National Gas Company of Iran, said this.

"Iran should have 8-10 percent of the world's gas trade, that is, more than 100 billion cubic meters of the world's gas trade portfolio. However, this goal has not been achieved so far. The approach of the Ministry of Oil and the Iranian National Gas Company is to increase the export share of gas. Actually, Iran's economy, especially the industrial sector, has lost its export opportunities because it has become dependent on gas."
