Kyrylo Budanov, the head of the General Intelligence Service of Ukraine, was part of the elite unit "2245th Squad" prepared by the Central Intelligence Service.
Axar.az informs that the "New York Times" reported on this.
According to the publication, Budanov was an officer in the unit that intercepted Russian UAVs and communications equipment so that CIA technicians could modify them and break encryption systems:
"General Budanov was the star of the "2245th Detachment". He was known for his daring operations behind enemy lines and had deep connections with the CIA. The agency trained him and also took the extraordinary step of sending him to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Maryland for rehabilitation after he was wounded in the right arm during the fighting in Donbas.
The "New York Times" writes that in one of the operations, Budanov, dressed in a Russian uniform, took the soldiers through the narrow strait in inflatable boats to the occupied Crimea. Ukrainian fighters were met on the peninsula by the elite special forces of Russia. During the battle, the Russians lost, even the son of a Russian general was among the dead.
