If the Democratic Party wins the midterm elections, its members plan to launch a series of sweeping investigations into the actions of US President Donald Trump, The Washington Post reported.

Axar.az informs, citing RBC-Ukraine, that according to Congressman Robert Garcia, the potential scale of the violations could require the involvement of the entire Democratic caucus in the House of Representatives.

"There’s so much corruption and grift that it’s going to take the entire House on the Democratic side to do investigations appropriately. We are all talking," he said.

At the same time, some Democrats are urging their colleagues not to make premature statements about the possible outcomes of such investigations.

The White House has criticized these plans and is preparing to push back against potential investigations. White House Press Secretary Olivia Nuzzi said that Trump's opponents allegedly have no agenda of their own and only seek to block his policies.

One area that could come under scrutiny is the administration's mining and energy deals. Congressman Jared Huffman believes they may have benefited the president's supporters and donors.

In particular, WP reports that the Trump administration offered a $1.2 billion deal to a German energy company in exchange for giving up offshore wind leases. Most of the money would have been reinvested by the company in an LNG project in Louisiana owned by a Trump donor.

Congress also wants to examine the decision to grant mass pardons to participants in the 2021 Capitol attack and the reopening of an oil pipeline in Southern California.

Another area that could receive particular attention is the restructuring of the federal government. Democrats argue that staffing changes under the Trump administration are weakening state institutions. Congressman Jim Himes, in particular, said there had been a purge of intelligence officials who disagreed with the president's policies.

In addition, potential investigations could concern criminal cases that Democrats consider politically motivated. These include proceedings involving former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James.
