The United States and the European Union (EU) want to ignite a new big fire in the South Caucasus, and Armenia plays the role of an instrument in this matter.

Axar.az reports that Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, said this during the briefing.

According to him, the United States and the collective West can only inflame conflicts:

"They don't know how to reconcile countries, settle conflicts, stop bloodshed."

"During the meeting held in Brussels on April 5, Armenia was informed of the plan called "Building Armenia's Defense and Security Resilience" (the replacement of the Russian military base and Russian border guards with US-EU-NATO forces, their expansion of provocations against Azerbaijan and Iran on the border of Armenia, as well as " "We will not be surprised if the forced acceptance of the Metsamor nuclear power plant (which includes the reorientation of Armenia's important infrastructure and energy system through the dismantling of the nuclear power plant) is revealed," he stressed.

M. Zakharova noted that Washington and Brussels aimed to destroy all security and economic relations between Armenia and Russia, to weaken regional security and economic partnership mechanisms based on the Collective Security Treaty Organization and the Eurasian Economic Union:

"No matter how much the Western countries say good things about peace in the South Caucasus, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Iran, Russia and Turkiye are eager to set their closest neighbours against each other."
