At the end of September, a direct freight train will depart for the first time on the Ulyanovsk (Russian Federation) - Baku (Azerbaijan) - Astara (Iran) route.

Axar.az reports, citing TASS, that the Governor of the Ulyanovsk region, Alexey Russkikh, announced this at a meeting of the regional headquarters for comprehensive development.

According to the governor, the first freight train on the Ulyanovsk-Baku-Astara route will depart at the end of September as part of the "Middle Volga-Caspian-Persian" Gulf corridor.

The train will consist of at least 70 different types of wagons, including covered tanks and bunker-type wagons.

Each train is designed to carry 3.5 thousand tons of various products, including products from the agro-industrial complex, wood processing, as well as industrial goods.

A. Russkikh added that the possibility of reloading the train with goods produced in Azerbaijan, Iran, and neighboring countries is being considered.

“I would like to note that the export train will be the first train to move in this direction since the Soviet Union era,” the regional head emphasized.

It is worth noting that the launch of the train is the result of agreements with Azerbaijan's Prime Minister Ali Asadov, as well as the coordinated work of the railway institutions of Russia and Azerbaijan, supported by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation and other organizations.
