Shevchenko: In this case, there will be no peace treaty

I believe that a peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia will not be signed in the near future.

Axar.az reports that this was stated by the prominent Russian public figure and political expert Maxim Shevchenko.

According to him, the signing of a peace agreement between Baku and Yerevan depends on who will enter the White House in January 2025, based on the results of the elections to be held in November this year in Washington:

“Either Donald Trump or Kamala Harris... In general, the situation in the region depends on the global situation. There are wars occurring in the world today. However, encouraging processes are being observed in the South Caucasus region. Both Azerbaijan and Georgia are fighting not to be tools of major geopolitical players.”

The expert emphasized that today, powers associated with the West, particularly the USA and France, dominate in Armenia:

“The West is using Armenia as a tool today. Therefore, I believe that the problem will worsen. Armenia is being used as a subject of manipulation to prevent reconciliation among the peoples of the Caucasus. Through Armenia, escalation against Azerbaijan is being supported. There are attempts to exacerbate relations between Azerbaijan and Iran.”

Maxim Shevchenko noted that as long as Armenia is not a truly free and sovereign state, and as long as it relies on Paris, Washington, Moscow, and Tehran to solve its problems, there will be no peace treaty:

“I want everyone to understand this clearly. Peace is possible between the Azerbaijani and Armenian peoples. You know, there are tragic moments in history, but time heals.”

The expert also discussed Russia-Armenia relations. He pointed out that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan serves not Moscow, but the interests of certain circles in Russia:

“I have always said that Pashinyan serves Moscow. What is happening now confirms this. The problem is that Russia has good relations not with Armenia, but with Armenian identity. These Armenians always play with the stakes. The Azerbaijani president’s emphasis on the significant increase in trade turnover between Armenia and Russia was not in vain. This is not about products made in Armenia; it refers to goods registered in Armenian territory that are later brought into Russia. Look, it is precisely the Armenian lobbyists who sit on this. Armenian banks earn large amounts of money. This shapes economic policy. The new Armenian lobby, which comes after the Karabakh clan, offers its services to Russia through “grey schemes.” Armenian identity is built on this.”

Maxim Shevchenko also emphasized that Armenia holds no significance for Russia:

“Armenia is now in a dependent position on Iran. I believe it should be handed over to Tehran. Tehran should be responsible for Armenia's dialogue with France and the West in general. For Russia, Armenia is simply a burden, as all transport corridors bypass it. Russia may agree to participate in transport corridors with Baku and Tbilisi. The North-South and East-West corridors bypass Armenia. So what strategic importance does Armenia have left?! Armenia is merely a painful point in the South Caucasus. It is clear that someone in Moscow wants to exploit this painful point.”
