Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) killed at least 124 people in a village in El Gezira State on Friday, according to activists, marking one of the deadliest incidents in the 18-month conflict and the largest in a recent series of attacks in the region.
Axar.az reports that , citin Reuters, pro-democracy activists reported that following the surrender of high-ranking RSF officer Abuagla Keikal to the army last Sunday, the RSF has launched revenge attacks in his home farming state, resulting in the killing and detaining of civilians and displacing thousands.
It should be noted that the conflict began in April 2023 when tensions erupted between the RSF and the army, which had previously shared power. This violence unfolded at a time when Sudan was expected to transition to civilian rule following a coup in 2021.
The war has displaced over 11 million people, pushed parts of the country into extreme hunger and famine, and attracted foreign powers that have provided material support to both sides.
