European leaders react to Georgia's elections

On October 26, leaders from European countries expressed their views regarding the parliamentary elections held in Georgia.

Axar.az presents some of their statements:

Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Bart Eide: "I am concerned about the report from the OSCE/ODIHR documenting widespread violations, voter intimidation, threats, and unequal conditions in Georgia's elections. The uncertainty regarding the fairness of the electoral process undermines trust and must be addressed."

Latvian President Edgars Rinkevičs: "The people of Georgia have a European dream, and no one has the right to steal that dream through threats and manipulation. I fully express solidarity with the people of Georgia and President Salome Zourabichvili."

(Note: Zourabichvili stated that the elections were falsified and refused to recognize the results.)

Swedish Foreign Minister Marie Ekström: "I am seriously concerned about the election violations recorded in Georgia by the OSCE/ODIHR and other observers. To restore trust, I urge the Georgian authorities to address these issues through a comprehensive political process. We are ready to work with all parliamentary forces that are genuinely committed to European values and principles in Georgia’s integration into Europe. Laws that restrict civil society and fundamental rights undermine Georgia’s European aspirations and increase polarization. They should be repealed."

German Foreign Ministry: "We fully support the OSCE/ODIHR report on the elections in Georgia. We are worried about reports of tensions and violations that need to be resolved. Germany is closely monitoring future developments in Georgia and calls on all parties to exercise restraint and avoid violence and further polarization. The management of election results and the formation of government will also impact Georgia's future progress and European path."

It should be noted that Lithuania and Estonia have also expressed their concerns about the violations occurring during the parliamentary elections.
