Ukraine extradites Azerbaijani fighter to Baku

Ukrainian law enforcement authorities have extradited an Azerbaijani citizen who fought as part of the Russian armed forces to Baku.

Axar.az reports, citing Ukrinform, the 45-year-old person from Haciqabul District signed a contract with the Russian army in 2023 and participated in combat operations against Ukraine in the Donetsk direction.

He was captured by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in June 2024 and later handed over to his country based on a request from the Azerbaijan Prosecutor General’s Office.

“This step not only demonstrates that Ukraine acts in accordance with international law, but also shows the existence of mutual trust in relations with Azerbaijan,” he stated.
