Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has offered condolences to Japan over the devastating earthquake that struck Kumamoto Prefecture.

Axar.az reports that the ministry shared the message on its official account.

“We are deeply saddened by the devastating earthquake that struck Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan. We extend our sincere condolences to the Government and people of Japan, especially to the families who lost their loved ones. We wish a speedy recovery to all those injured and hope that the communities affected will overcome the consequences of this tragedy as swiftly as possible,” the statement said.

It should be noted that a magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck Kumamoto Prefecture on Japan’s southern Kyushu Island on July 28. The tremors caused destruction and power outages, and authorities issued a tsunami warning, which was later lifted. According to the latest reports, 34 people have died as a result of the earthquake.
