French President Emmanuel Macron has agreed not to enforce the International Criminal Court's arrest warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in exchange for his role in the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon.
Axar.az informs that this information was reported by France's Le Point magazine, citing sources close to the French leader.
The publication writes that shortly after the arrest warrant was issued, Macron called Netanyahu and stated that France's commitment to respecting the ICC’s decision and fully cooperating with it was obligatory.
"At the same time," Macron added, "the provisions of the ICC warrant include immunity in relation to arrest orders." The two leaders discussed the situation around the ceasefire in Lebanon, and they agreed that Paris would play a significant role in the committee overseeing the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which regulates the situation along the Israel-Lebanon border. During this phone call, the recent differences between France and Israel were resolved. Granting Netanyahu immunity was the price for France's involvement in the Lebanon agreement.
