Smoking in public places has been banned in Milan, the fashion and financial capital of Italy.

Axar.az reports that the decision adopted in 2020 entered into force on January 1. According to the decision, smoking is prohibited in all public places, including on the street. The purpose of the decision is to improve air quality.

There are 2 exceptions to the decision: In Milan, smoking is allowed only in designated areas, with a minimum distance of 10 meters between people. Electronic cigarettes are allowed outside the places where the population gathers.

Those who break the law will be fined between 40 and 240 euros.

Italy is one of the most smoking countries in Europe. One in five Italians smokes. According to official statistics, in 2023, 93,000 Italians will die from diseases caused by smoking.
