Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt has expressed concerns that artificial intelligence (AI) could be exploited by terrorists or rogue states like North Korea, Iran, or Russia to create biological weapons.

Axar.az, citing BBC, reports that he emphasized the need for government oversight on AI development while warning that over-regulation could stifle innovation.

Schmidt supported U.S. export controls on advanced AI microchips, a policy implemented by former President Joe Biden but potentially reversible by Donald Trump.

Speaking at the AI Action Summit in Paris, he criticized excessive European regulations, arguing they could hinder AI advancements. He also acknowledged past underestimations of AI’s impact by tech leaders but emphasized that they now recognize its power.

Additionally, Schmidt voiced support for restricting children's smartphone use, particularly in schools, and backed proposals to ban social media for those under 16, citing concerns over children's well-being.
