The United States, the United Kingdom, and Kyiv have secretly prepared an operation to strike the Crimean Bridge in the summer of 2024.
Axar.az reports that this information was provided by The New York Times.
According to the report, the Crimean Bridge was one of the main targets of an operation named "Lunar Hail," which was designed to destroy military infrastructure on the Crimean Peninsula. The plan involved simultaneous strikes on the bridge using atacms missiles and surface drones.
During the preparation of the attack, Russia reinforced the bridge's supports for defense. The newspaper writes that under these circumstances, Kyiv insisted on carrying out the attack solely with missiles. However, U.S. officials considered this tactic ineffective and demanded either a wait-and-see approach or the complete cancellation of the attack. By August, the U.S. had backed off, and several missiles were launched at the bridge, but none of them hit the target.
It is worth noting that according to the Russian Ministry of Defense, on the night of August 16, 2024, Air Defense Forces repelled the attack on the Crimean Bridge. Ukraine launched 12 atacms tactical missiles at the bridge, but all of them were destroyed.
