Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has appointed Eli Sharvit as the new head of the Shin Bet internal intelligence service.
Axar.az reports that this information was provided by the Prime Minister’s office.
Eli Sharvit was previously the commander of the Israeli Navy. He led the establishment of naval defense forces in the country’s territorial waters and managed operations against Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran.
Sharvit is the first person in 29 years to be appointed as the head of Shin Bet without having previously served in the security service ranks.
It is worth noting that, earlier in March, Netanyahu dismissed Sharvit’s predecessor, Ronen Bar, due to disagreements over Hamas’s responsibility for the attack on October 7 last year, as well as issues related to negotiations with hostages and investigations with Qatar.
