The commander of the Turkish Navy, Admiral Ercument Tatlioglu, has officially announced his intention to create a nuclear-powered submarine for the first time.
Axar.az informs that local media reported on this.
Tatlioglu emphasized that it has been our national dream to create an independently designed submarine for 139 years:
"After the completion of MILDEN, we will take a new step towards nuclear submarines."
It was noted that the Turkish maritime industry has recently also developed to reduce foreign dependence as much as possible. The national shipbuilding programs MILGEM (National Ship) and MILDEN (National Submarine), which have already achieved significant results, have created the initial conditions for the design of a nuclear submarine.
Turkish military expert and defense industry analyst Devrim Yaylal believes that the existence of such a powerful submarine can include Turkey among the countries that independently design, produce, and operate nuclear submarines. These countries include the United States, Russia, China, France, the United Kingdom, and India.
