U.S. President Donald Trump has urged Apple not to move its iPhone production to India, emphasizing his preference for the company to expand manufacturing within the United States.
Axar.az reports speaking during a meeting in Doha, Trump revealed he had recently spoken with Apple CEO Tim Cook, following reports that Apple plans to produce the majority of iPhones sold in the U.S. at factories in India by the end of 2026.
“I spoke to Tim Cook this morning, and he’s going to, I think, even up his numbers,” Trump said earlier in the Oval Office before departing for the Middle East. “He’s going to be building a lot of plants in the United States for Apple, and we look forward to that.”
Trump reiterated in Doha that Apple is increasing its production inside the U.S. and added that he is "not interested" in the company building factories in India.
However, it's unclear how Apple's leadership will respond, as the company has already been ramping up its operations in India as part of a broader supply chain diversification strategy.
