The enthronement ceremony of Pope Leo XIV is taking place in the Vatican.

Before the ceremony, the pontiff arrived in St. Peter's Square, where thousands of Christians from all over the world gathered, in a popemobile. Then Leo XIV is to hold a mass and receive the distinctive signs of papal authority - a fisherman's ring and a pallium (a white ribbon-shaped stole with six black crosses embroidered on it - ed.).

Among the foreign leaders attending the event are King Philip VI of Spain, King Philippe of Belgium, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, US Vice President James De Vance, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Azerbaijan is represented at the ceremony by the Speaker of the Milli Majlis, Sahiba Gafarova.
